Last week, we looked at the performance of just the first day of the Kings World Cup. With the competition having now concluded, it’s time to review the performance of the Kings World Cup in its entirety to gain a first insight into the popularity of the event on live-streaming platforms.
The Kings World Cup is the culmination of the 2023/2024 season of the Kings League; a global event that pulls together the best players of the Kings League InfoJobs, Kings League Americas Santander, and a pool of wildcard competitors from around the globe for a 32-team football tournament hosted in Mexico. Under the watchful eye of former pro football player Zlatan Ibrahimović, the teams vied for the title of the first-ever Kings World Cup champions, a $1M USD grand prize, and, of course, the trophy itself.
For those uninitiated readers, the Kings World Cup brings together top talent from the world of professional football, streaming, and even newly drafted amateur players for a 7-a-side competition. Having begun in Spain under the direction of Gerard Piqué, the tournament has successfully captured the attention of a younger generation of football fans around the world.
The Kings World Cup Grabs the World’s Attention with 38M Hours Watched
After two weeks, the Kings World Cup is over and it’s clear that the event was a phenomenal success. The Kings World Cup generated 38M hours watched, with a peak viewership of 1.2M tuning in for the tournament’s opening day. Surprisingly, the opening day was actually more popular overall than the event’s grand final, achieving an average viewership of 644K compared to the final’s average viewership of 570K. As the Kings World Cup is a personality-driven tournament, it makes sense that some viewers would drop off as their favorite teams are knocked out of the competition. This is backed up by the fact that co-streaming accounted for 77% of all viewership for the Kings World Cup.
The top streamers contributing to this co-streaming viewership are, naturally, the heads of the teams competing in the tournament. DjMaRiiO brought in the most hours watched at 5M – roughly 13% of all Kings World Cup viewership. The winner of the tournament, ibai and his team Porcinos FC, came in second with 4.4M hours watched – a fitting result for the man who originally organized the Kings League. But the most popular streamer by average views and peak viewership alone remained SXB (SHoNGXBoNG), whose opening day viewership was too strong for other creators to contend with. SXB brought in an average viewership of 353K – 241K higher than the next highest average viewership from WestCOL.
With the incredible performance of the Kings League format proven on a global scale, the only question that remains is: What next? For starters, the tournament is confirmed to be expanding to France in 2025. But given the high viewership of this first edition of the Kings World Cup, the event is sure to return for a second edition at the end of the 2024/2025 season as well. Stream Hatchet will be watching to see new iterations of the Kings League moving forward.
